TEXTILE INNOVATIONS

Compression wool clothing

Compression garments and compression socks continue to generate interest and have been brought into new applications, including Merino wool to enhance the benefits of the garment.

Enhanced comfort
High levels of stretch and recovery for comfort during intense movements, allowing the garment to move with you yet return to its original shape.

Body contouring
Acts like a second skin to support and protect the contours of the body without restricting movement and promoting flexibility.

Naturally breathable
Merino wool is one of the most breathable fibres. Wool fibres can absorb large quantities of moisture vapour then move it away to evaporate into the air.

Increased blood flow
Providing compression on the body's muscles increases blood flow which in turn improves performance, reduces the risk of injury and accelerates post-exercise muscle recovery.

Thermo-regulating
Wool helps to regulate changes in body temperature and moisture levels. An active fibre, wool reacts to changes in the body's temperature helping keep you warm when it's cold and cool when it's hot.

Compression Wool Clothing

HOW IT WORKS

Body mapping or compression wear is a knitting technology designed for maximum comfort in sport and activewear whilst encouraging optimal performance of the wearer. Athletes have often been complaining about the discomfort of wet and extremely tight-fitting garments. However, Merino wool next-to-skin makes a real difference thanks to its natural moisture management and thermo-regulating properties, combined with the crimped, soft fibres that minimise the garment clinging to the skin.

Combining the integrated knit structures with wool yarn, the product promotes balanced body temperature regulation, increased blood circulation/flow and is also designed with protection of the wearer in mind. There are multiple ways to construct a wool-rich compression fabric; warp knit is just one example.

“It’s home-grown and quite an interesting fabrication to use in sportswear.”
