Flat bed knitting machines vary in shape, size and complexity to produce fabric or even complete garments. The two types of flat bed knitting machines – the single bed and the V-bed machine – are the predominant technology used to produce wool knitwear.
Both flat bed and V-bed machines can create an almost infinite range of garments and are able to handle various yarns, with a capacity for many different textures. Flat bed machines have almost unlimited patterning capacity due to being able to transfer stitches from one needle bed to the other, creating opportunity for design variations
In addition, some parts of the garment such as pockets and trims can be included into a flat bed knitted garment without having to be added separately at a later stage. The result is that garments come off the machine almost ready to wear.
