The Woolmark Company educates thousands of hand knitters

The Woolmark Company will present at the 2nd annual VOGUE knitting live event to be held in New York at the Hilton Hotel from the 14 – 16 January 2012.

Hand knitting has a huge following in the USA with over 50 million Americans knowing how to knit or crochet. Hand knitting in the USA is a US$1.5 billion industry.

“We are showcasing at VOGUE knitting live to influence hand knitters to knit with Merino yarn by educating them on the benefits and characteristics of Merino wool,” explained The Woolmark Company’s US Country Manager, Sonny Puryear.

Over 6,000 hand knitters are expected to attend the 3 day event. There will be 200 knitting classes and seminars, 10 fashion shows, and exhibits from over 70 speciality hand knitting retailers and brands.

Merino wool yarns will be showcased to the trade and consumers at the Woolmark stand, educating them on the benefits of knitting with wool. Visitors can learn about and experience wool in various stages from greasy wool to finished hand knitted garments, and receive brochures, information and complimentary yarn samples from selected Woolmark licensees.

During the opening night dinner gala, 350 guests will be presented a fashion show of 34 hand knitted garments that were featured in VOGUE Knitting Magazine in 2010/11.

Participating Woolmark Licensee yarn brands include Debbie Bliss, Erika Knight, Katia, Lanas Stop, Rosarios 4, Rowan Yarns, and Valley Fibers.
