The Wool Lab Spring/Summer edition brought to Hong Kong, Taiwan

9 May 2012

The story of wool continues to be told across the world, this time with Hong Kong and Taiwan taking centre stage.

Following the success of The Wool Lab Spring/Summer 2012/13 edition  launched in January at Pitti Uomo in Italy, the seasonal guide to the best commercially available wool fabrics and yarns in the world landed on the shores of Hong Kong and for the first time Taiwan.

For two months the Wool Lab Spring/Summer collection was shown solidly to key industry representatives, who welcomed the new styles with open arms.

Presenting seven inspiring trends for the upcoming season, those who were privy to The Wool Lab showing appreciated the completeness of the guide which covers formal to casual wear, super-feminine proposals through to highly innovative suggestions addressing urban and leisure brands.

Following the success of the Autumn/Winter Wool Lab edition in 2011, the latest offering was once again welcome with open arms and highly regarded. The Spring/Summer collection was shown at the 25th Interstoff Asia March trade show which attracted more than 250 exhibitors from 12 countries, as well as at fashion week, which is one of the biggest trade shows in Hong Kong.

The Woolmark Company Fashion Communications Manager for Hong Kong, Vincy Cheng, praised the success of The Wool Lab and said it had fast become an important tool in the fashion industry.

“The feedback we received was very positive and it also attracted new parties to join The Wool Lab for the next season,” Ms Cheng said.

“Targeting brands, retailers and fashion designers we have been taking the new edition of the Wool Lab to the Hong Kong Apparel Trade show and while Hong Kong remains the major focus for The Wool Lab we also brought it to Taiwan as a first launch for March and April.”

With an audience of about 500 Hong Kong and Taiwanese stakeholders of the apparel & fashion trade, The Wool Lab was presented to fashion, textile and pattern designers, product development managers, sourcing managers, technologists, sales managers and merchandisers as well as the design director of Shiatzy Chen, a high brand in Taiwan, who said the designers were impressed with what they saw and also showed interest in The Woolmark Company’s upcoming marketing activities.

Other industry representatives said the timing of The Wool Lab launch and accompanying presentations was perfect.

“The timing is just right as our (local) brands tend to start Spring/Summer later,” a spokesperson from G2000 in Taiwan said. “The finest Merino fabric shown in the Limited Edition is very impressive and it is valuable to be able to touch them.”

Hong Kong and Taiwan Key Account Managers, Daniel Chan and Lillian Chiang, delivered presentations to retail and design outlets, which included selling the benefit of Merino and latest global marketing campaigns. These presentations provided by The Woolmark Company demonstrate the additional value we offered to the fashion and apparel trade.
