Sonny Puryear from The Woolmark Company’s USA office shows the latest edition of The Wool Lab at Spin Expo New York in July.
Spin Expo New York presented four strong global trend messages – in the form of Prologue, Genre, Narrative and Epilogue. The two biggest trends to emerge for the upcoming season were flowers versus animal prints in either bright or faded geometric layouts.
Whilst total attendance to the trade fair was down compared with previous years, The Wool Lab was well received by designers, retailers, manufacturers and press.
The Woolmark Company country manager for USA, Michelle Lee, said The Woolmark Company’s booth at the exhibition was in prime position and looked fantastic.
“The Wool Lab received amazing reviews from all those who viewed it,” Ms Lee said. “Black Swan, Pure and Murano were the most popular with women’s design teams. For men’s designers, the favourites were Dandy and Brooklyn followed closely by all urban themes.”
Launched for the first time in the USA in July 2011, The Wool Lab has raised the interest of the American fashion and textile industry, because of its inspirational and business-oriented qualities.
The Woolmark Company made several high-quality appointments and new contacts, largely due to the success of The Wool Lab presentation.
Several licensees of The Woolmark Company also exhibited at Spin Expo New York including Hebei Wilson Textile Co., Ltd and Jiangyin Zhenxin Wool Spinning Co., Ltd – both from China – as well as trade partners Xiano, Sud woole and Stoll.
“Other companies showed interest in becoming a Woolmark licensee and they have been put in contact with their local Woolmark office.”
Spin Expo New York was held July 16-18, 2012, at The Metropolitan Pavilion in NYC.
